780 IMPROVING NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT FOR POST-SURGICAL FEMUR FRACTURE PATIENTS AT ST MARY’S HOSPITAL, LONDON

Abstract Introduction Malnutrition represents a common complication in femur fracture patients and is primarily caused by poor dietary intake. associated with clinical outcomes, the strongest independent risk factor for recurrent fracture. High protein oral nutrition supplements (ONS) have been improved outcomes after fracture, including reduced complications, length of hospital stay, mortality bone mineral density loss, increases functional status quality life (Volkert, Beck, Cederholm et al., Clinical Nutrition, 38, 10–47)). Accordingly, European Society Nutrition Metabolism (ESPEN) advocates use ONS all hospital. Aim To improve nutritional support post-surgical at St Mary’s Hospital, London. Methods We plan to carry out three PDSA cycles evaluate whether two separate interventions are effective increasing prescription rate patients. Each cycle included who underwent surgical treatment during one month period. Results ‘Cycle 1’ 18 (mean age: 84.6 years; range: 68–98 years) treated March 2021. were prescribed 11% (2/18) ‘Intervention comprised dietician-led presentation Geriatric department weekly teaching session on 17/05/21. 2’ data will be collected 1’.
